Honest Holt sheds light on grim reality

Of the many tweets launched into cyberspace by Accrington Stanley owner Andy Holt last weekend, there was one that cut straight to the lunacy of life in England’s lower leagues.
Having revealed that he is covering losses of £90,000 every month, Holt was asked by a supporter why ‘as a businessman’ he had bought the club in the first place.
“I took it over because someone had to,” came Holt’s succinct response. “It was nothing to do with business.”
And why would it be? There’s no good business to be done in the EFL. Not unless you’re a loan shark, an agent or an insolvency practitioner.
