Mowbray’s boys smash Saints

stunned with a five-star show – as 16-year-old sensation Chris Rigg announced himself on the Championship stage.

The youngster rounded off a 5-0 rout for the Black Cats in stoppage time with a goal on his league debut. Jack Clarke had opened the scoring in the opening minute with Pierre Ekwah grabbing a double and registering his first for the club.

Boss Tony Mowbray said: “I’m happy with the day and happy for the fans. On paper this is a really difficult game.

“I looked at their squad on the back of the programme and just saw name after name after name of really experienced high-quality footballers.”

Meanwhile, are top of the table thanks to a 2-0 win over Stoke City and Town are second after coming from two goals down to beat 3-2.

City lead the way in following a 1-0 win over Burton Albion and League Two new boys County are at the summit after beating Accrington 3-1.
