CITY HOLD OFF WELSH FIGHTBACK

SALFORD CITY saw off a spirited Newport County fightback on Tuesday to stay top of League Two.
An ecstatic Ammies’ boss Neil Wood said: “That shows the character, the work rate, the mentality of this group.”
Wood’s side found the net twice in the space of three second-half minutes to seemingly gain control of the game.
Luke Bolton broke the deadlock with a drive, before his curler deflected off Cameron Norman moments later. This triggered a resurgence from the home side however, as Newport then produced a quickfire double.
