Balance of carrot and stick can be crucial

OVER the last couple of weeks, first Mark Sampson and then Alex Revell left Stevenage.
It was a most unusual situation with both men having a turn ‘at the wheel’ and also coaching for the other in one consecutive tenure, whilst I stepped into the hotseat for 15 games and 52 days in the middle and worked with both men.
Alex’s record as manager was 20W 30D 27L=1.17 points per game and a 26 per cent win record, while Mark’s was 5W 7D 6L=1.22 points per game and a 27 per cent win record.
