Gary Rowett signs new contract with Birmingham

Gary Rowett has put pen to paper on a new one-year rolling contract with Birmingham City.

The 41-year-old left Burton Albion to take charge at St Andrews in October 2014 and oversaw a remarkable change in fortune to help Birmingham finish the season in 10th place.

The Blues have also had a good start to the current season and are currently sitting in 8th place in the Championship, just two points off the play off positions.

Assistant manager Kevin Summerfield, first-team coach Mark Sale and goalkeeper coach Kevin Poole have also been rewarded with new deals.

Birmingham director Panos Pavlakis told the club’s official website: “We wanted to show our support and commitment to Gary, Kevin and his coaches for the work that has gone on. These new contracts are a significant development in that respect.

“We have had a fantastic relationship with Gary since day one. He is very happy here and we share the same vision in continuing to move the team and the club forward.”

Before taking up management with Burton Albion in 2012, Rowett had a successful playing career where he represented a host of clubs including Derby, Leicester and Charlton.
