‘MATURE’ PEARS IS RIPE FOR A LONG CAREER

MIDDLESBROUGH boss Jonathan Woodgate felt Aynsley Pears belied his years with a “mature” display on his league debut in the goalless draw at Huddersfield in midweek. The 21-year-old goalkeeper, who came in for the injured Darren Randolph, was rarely troubled, but Woodgate credited the youngster for keeping his concentration.
Aynsley is the son of former Boro stalwart Stephen Pears, who played more than 300 games for the club between 1985 and 1995.
