Match Preview: Watford v Swansea City (Wednesday, 7.45pm)

Watford are on a poor run ahead of hosting Swansea City at Vicarage Road on Wednesday, with just three points collected from their last six games.

The Hornets have picked up just one win in their last six Championship games, and face a Swans side whose last six games have brought three wins and three losses.

In the last 10 years, Watford and Swansea have played each other on 12 occasions. Watford won six of them, Swansea five, and they drew once.

On average, the Hornets scored 1.0 goal and the Swans 1.1 in those matches.

Their last meeting was on October 24, when Watford won 1-0 away.

With 45 goals in 35 games so far this season, Swansea are scoring at below the league average rate with 1.3 goals per game. And they are conceding more than average, letting in 56 goals at a rate of 1.6 per game.

Watford, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.4 goals per game. They have also conceded 1.4 goals per game.

City are 15th in the table after 35 games, of which they have won 11 and drawn nine, earning 42 points.

The Hornets are three places ahead of the Swans in 12th, with 11 wins and 11 draws putting them on 44 points.

In Joël Piroe, the away team have one of the league’s most on-form strikers so far this season. He has notched 11 goals in 34 appearances, to sit ninth in the scoring charts.

His goal rate of one every 221 minutes is slightly quicker than that of Mileta Rajovic, the hosts’ top scorer with a goal every 185 minutes, and a total of nine goals in 32 games.

Watford’s last match was on Saturday, a 1-0 loss against Millwall.

Swansea beat Blackburn Rovers 2-1 last time out, also on Saturday, with Jamie Paterson and Joe Allen on the scoresheet.

Wednesday’s match will be refereed by Tom Nield, who has taken charge of eight Championship games so far this season, issuing no red cards and booking 28 players. He has awarded one penalty.

The last Swansea game Nield refereed was the 2-1 win at home against Norwich City on October 4. He is yet to oversee a match featuring Watford this season.
