Saudi Arabia sparked the World Cup into life with a victory over Argentina that highlighted a dominant theme in Qatar.
Namely, that big teams and big players have been taken by surprise when the so-called underdogs go for the jugular.
Gone are the days when betters were respected with a deep low block and a bus took root in the six-yard box. Costa Rica, thumped 7-0 by Spain, showed exactly what that tactic achieves.
Instead, superior quality is being countered by frenzied pressing, high defensive lines and numbers on the counter.
