Last Christmas, Paul Simpson didn’t even know if he wanted to be a football manager again.
Bruised by a six-month stint at Stockport in 2010, the former Manchester City winger had spent a decade in backroom roles.
Portugal’s Academica. Derby and Newcastle. A three-year stint as head coach of England’s U20s, when a team powered by Dominic Solanke and Calvert-Lewin won the 2017 World Cup.
