But hindsight is a wonderful thing, and it’s now clear that the players who’d reached Wembley, won a playoff final and fought so valiantly to remain in the Premier League had already scaled their mountain.
Some of those boys, like Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, began their journey to the summit in the National League. Others clambered aboard in League One.
