Match Preview: Reading v Northampton Town (Friday, 3pm)

Reading host Northampton Town on Friday at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in League One.

In their last league match, on March 16, Reading beat Cambridge United 4-0 at home, with goals from Femi Azeez, Kelvin Ehibhaimha, Lewis Wing and Sam Smith.

Northampton also won, 1-0 at home against Derby County on Saturday, with Sam Hoskins scoring their goals.

With 55 goals in 39 games so far this season, Reading are scoring more than average in the league with 1.4 goals per game. But they are conceding more than average too, letting in 57 goals at a rate of 1.5 per game.

Northampton, meanwhile, are average scorers, with 1.3 goals per game. They have conceded 1.5 goals per game.

The Royals are in mixed form in League One, with three wins and three losses from their last six games.

With a win and two draws over that period, Town’s form is worse – they have taken five points from 18, compared to the hosts’ nine.

In Hoskins, the Cobblers have one of the league’s sharpest shooters so far this season. He has notched 15 goals in 33 appearances, to sit fifth in the scoring charts.

His goal rate of one every 174 minutes is quicker than that of Smith, Reading’s top scorer with a goal every 204 minutes, and a total of 11 goals in 27 games.

Reading are 15th in the table after 39 games, of which they have won 13 and drawn nine, earning 48 points.

The away side are three places ahead of the Royals in 12th, with 15 wins and eight draws putting them on 53 points.
