BARNSLEY insist they were powerless to prevent manager Gerhard Struber leaving for MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.
The 43-year-old Austrian, appointed last November, earned hero status when he guided the Tykes to a dramatic Championship relegation escape last season.
But after questioning the ambition of Barnsley’s owners following last Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough, the former Wolfsberger boss has decided the Big Apple represents a better bet.
