SAM Long is desperate to prove a point to Oxford boss Karl Robinson and become a linchpin of his team after finally forcing his way back into the U’s squad.
The Bicester-born defender played the full 90 minutes in Oxford’s 3-0 Carabao Cup defeat to Manchester City in midweek, his first start since a 0-0 draw with Cambridge in March 2016.
It has been a long road back for Long, who has been hampered by a string of injuries and sent on numerous loans since breaking through as a highly-rated teenager.
