SHORTLY after Steve McClaren was unveiled as the new manager of QPR in May, he traipsed outside for the obligatory scarf shots.
Unfortunately the Loftus Road pitch had been ripped up. Instead of lush green grass, the backdrop to Mc- Claren’s beaming mug was a barren, lifeless wasteland.
