CARLISLE boss Graham Kavanagh believes former Rangers star Nacho Novo can fire the Cumbrians to League One safety after securing his signature.
The 34-year-old Spaniard was a hugely popular figure in six seasons at Ibrox, where he scored 71 goals, before returning to his homeland in 2010.
He’s since had spells in Poland and then Morton at the start of this season but has been handed a short-term deal, subject to clearance, at Brunton Park.
And Kavanagh, who saw his side go three points clear of the drop zone with a 1-0 win over Bradford last night, is thrilled to have him on board.
“He’s scored goals wherever he’s played and brings intelligence and cleverness to the team. He’s a new option for us,” said Kavanagh.
“It’s about getting his clearance now, I’m not really sure the time frame on that, but I imagine he will be available for our next game.
“It’s pleasing, all the players we’ve signed up to now have been generally young and inexperienced, and he gives us a know-how and knowledge and composure that I hope will rub off on the other players and excite the fans.”
