Ryan Mason spent the early weeks of the season providing fulsome backing to misfiring West Bromwich Albion striker Aune Heggebo.
“I don’t care if he hasn’t scored,” said the 34-year-old West Brom boss. “Because if you’ve seen his performances, they are worth more than a goal.
“In every game, he’s led from the front. He’s been a real focal point, a great character. That’s what stands out the most.”
Last weekend, the Norwegian - a £4.7m summer signing from Brann - repaid that faith by potentially saving his manager’s job.
