Dutch footballing legend Clarence Seedorf has emerged as a shock contender for the managerial vacancy at Oldham Athletic.
The 41-year-old has reportedly held talks with Latics chairman Simon Corney about replacing the departed John Sheridan at Boundary Park.
The four-time European Cup winner, who had a playing career spanning clubs like Ajax, Real Madrid, Inter and AC MIlan, began his management career with a short spell with Milan in 2014.
He moved on to Chinese second division team Shenzhen FC in 2016, but lasted just five months before being replaced by Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Oldham are currently second bottom of League One having lost seven of their first nine games this season, and were thumped 5-1 by Rotherham last Saturday which led to Sheridan's departure.
Whether an inexperienced boss like Seedorf is the right choice for a club in possible relegation trouble remains to be seen, and you wonder if a manager more familiar with English football would be a better choice.
On the other hand, when thing's aren't going your way it can sometimes pay to get innovative, and Corney will be hoping that would be the case if he appointed the Dutchman.
