Will Grigg will continue to be on fire at the DW Stadium, after the striker put pen to paper on a new two-year contract with the club today.
The extension will keep the 26-year-old at the club until June 2020, with his prior contract set to run out at the end of this season.
The new deal for the Northern Ireland international provides a further boost to the Latics, who have enjoyed a strong start to the season – currently sitting in fifth place in the table.
Wigan boss Paul Cook was understandably delighted to tie the striker to the club, telling the club's official website: “This is absolutely great news for the club.
“Will is a proven goal-scorer, a superb professional and is a key part of the squad. This was one of the priorities of the summer and I thank the chairman and the club for making this possible.
“To have this kind of commitment from Will is a huge shot in the arm for the team, the club and all the Wigan Athletic supporters.”
Grigg said: “I'm really pleased to have signed a new contract with the club. From the moment I first signed it's been a whirlwind, but I've loved every minute of it and to get this deal done means everything to me.
“I've been at a few clubs now but this is the one I've felt at home at and my family are settled too. This deal hasn't taken a long time to do because I was keen to get it done as soon as possible, and I think that shows what the club means to me.”
Grigg has been a huge success since signing for Wigan from Brentford in 2015, scoring 35 goals in 85 appearances for the club. The striker is yet to play this season as he recovers from a knee injury he suffered in March.
