Leyton Orient manager Andy Edwards has resigned at the League Two strugglers in order to take a role as a national specialist coach at the Football Association.
Edwards was in charge for nine games after being promoted from assistant manager following the sacking Alberto Cavasin last November.
The former Peterborough United and Southend defender joined the Orient youth development programme in 2009, quickly progressing through the age groups to become the academy director.
After a long association with the east London club Edwards stated to the club's official website:
“It is with regret that I have made the decision to stand down as manager of Leyton Orient FC. It has been a very difficult decision but I feel that it is in the best interests of my career and my family,” the 45-year-old admitted.
“I have been offered and duly accepted a role working within the coaching department of the Football Association.
“It has been an honour and a privilege to have worked for the club for over seven and a half years. I thank the chairman for the opportunity to manage the team and I thank all staff, players and supporters for the backing that they have given to me in my time here.
“It goes without saying that I wish Leyton Orient every success in the challenge ahead and in the longer term future.”
The O's have promoted Edwards' assistant Danny Webb to the post of first-team manager, the club's fourth this season – beginning with Andy Hessenthaler, Alberto Cavasin, the aforementioned Edwards and now Webb.
33-year-old Webb becomes the youngest manager in the EFL and faces the uphill task of saving Orient from relegation to the National League.
Like Edwards, Webb progressed through the club's academy coaching system to branch into the first-team set-up, winning the Merit One League title unbeaten when in charge of the Under-18s last season.
Orient's senior team lie 23rd in the League Two table and welcome Carlisle United to Brisbane Road on Saturday for Webb's first game in charge of the senior team.
