Gillingham have made their second signing of the summer transfer window with the ink now dry on a deal for Bradford City midfielder Billy Knott.
24 hours after the announcement of the signing of Newport County captain Mark Byrne, Justin Edinburgh has added to his midfield options with Bradley Dack subject of vast interest, notably Bristol City.
Essex-born Knott, 23, revealed his previous work with Justin Edinburgh in the very early stages of his development as a footballer was key to penning a two-year contract.
“I'm looking forward to the challenge ahead,” said Knott, “it's been a long time coming, me working with Justin – I went to soccer schools with him when I was six years old. I needed a manager who trusts me, knows what I'm about and somebody who can get the best out of me.
“I can score goals, I like to get forward and get in the box, I'm going to work hard and really enjoy my time here.”
Knott made 78 appearances in total for the Bantams during his time at Valley Parade, starring in City's memorable 4-2 FA Cup giant killing of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in January 2015.
Bradford opted not to renew his contract, with the new German ownership's main priority remaining their search for a successor to Phil Parkinson after his shock exit to Bolton Wanderers last week.
Former manager Stuart McCall has been interviewed for the job, with Steve Evans one of many managers on the fringe.
