Dave Whelan resigns as Wigan Chairman

Dave Whelan has confirmed he will no longer have a role on the board and has resigned as Chairman of the club after 20 years.

He will remain owner but has passed the guardianship of the club to his 23 year-old grandson David Sharpe, whose first task will be maintaining the club's status.

A heavy weight on young shoulders with the nine points adrift of safety.

statement: “The time has now come to hand over the reins. I am approaching 80 years of age and spend an increasingly long time abroad, and cannot make it to games. It is a decision I have been mulling over for some years and I believe David is now ready.”

Aside from action on racist comments made about the jewish and chinese communities, Whelan does have multiple promotions and one success among his memories at the Lancashire club.
