Kodjia expected to miss Aston Villa’s opener for next season with broken ankle

Aston striker Jonathan Kodjia is a doubt to begin the 2017/18 season after sustaining a broken ankle in the weekend's defeat to at Ewood Park.

The 's record signing is set to travel to Europe in order to meet with a specialist later this week, after being taken off the pitch by a stretcher.

And in a preceding blow the next season's preparations the club confirmed ‘the injury will likely require surgery which could then rule the striker out of pre-season and the start of next season'.

The Ivorian has been Villa's main attacking threat this season scoring 21 goals in all competitions. Making it 41 goals in total for the past two years since leaving Ligue 1 outfit Angers for the Championship.

In April, manager Steve said of Kodjia “I've said it since I started management that you are only ever as good as your strikers. At the moment, we've got somebody playing at the top of his game.

“He's a really talented boy and a good boy at that, too.”
