Yakubu initially persevered through the injury and provided the assist for George Thomas to score Coventry's sole goal of the afternoon late in the match, only to later feel the pain worsen in the closing stages.

With boss Russell Slade having used all three substitutions, the Nigerian was left to hover around the touchline until the game was finished with a suspected torn hamstring.

A video which went viral had been posted to social media in the wake of the match, but it is now known the 34-year-old's season faces the possibility of being over.

Yakubu is set to undergo a scan on Monday with a Grade 3 hamstring tear, the most severe case, likely to see him ruled out for three months.
